Red the Snowman
June 20, 2009
Dear Journal,
The winter was cold this year. We had a few snow days away from school and that was fun! One day it warmed up a little and I built a snowman. Mom gave me some buttons to use for the eyes and some red food coloring that I used to color in his mouth after I carved out the shape of it. It was funny… a snowman with red lips! I called him “Red” after that! My sister let me use her winter scarf and so I tied it around Red’s neck. I used some twigs from the yard for his arms and my Dad’s yard gloves for the hands. The wind started to blow and it was getting cold. So I went inside and Mom gave me some hot chocolate. I warmed up right away.
I was looking at Red from the window and then I thought I would try to draw him on my one of my Etch A Sketches! Circles can be hard to make, but I just took my time and worked both of the knobs together until the circles were done. Then, I noticed that one of my Dad’s gloves was missing from Red. The wind had carried it away! I had to imagine what the glove looked like to finish the drawing. It turned out pretty well after all.
My Mom thought it was a good picture. So, we put it up on the shelf to show Grandma and Grandpa later. It’s still there. And guess what? I found Dad’s glove! It was stuck between the bushes and the house. After a good cleaning, it went back in the drawer with the other one!
Catch ya later,
Etch
